GOOFISH Ringcrest 180 split ring pliers appearance concept in Deep Petrol and Muted Aubergine

The GOOFISH® Ringcrest 180 split ring fishing pliers are a development-stage rigging tool for changing compatible split rings and managing fishing line. The proposed design combines a compact opening tooth, replaceable stainless-steel jaw inserts, replaceable line cutters and a solid-web aluminum handle frame. Choose Deep Petrol or Muted Aubergine, then select Tool Only or Tool with Sheath.

Development disclosure: All dimensions, materials, fit envelopes and functions below are design targets awaiting first-article testing. They are not verified specifications of manufactured stock. Generated images communicate appearance and component locations, not actual stock photographs, machining drawings or proof of performance. Do not sell this design as a tested saltwater tool before the approval checklist is completed.

Design philosophy: precise rigging before the next drop

Ringcrest names the short crest-shaped opening tooth and the interrupted twin-line artwork on one handle. The 180 identifies the nominal 180 mm closed-length target. A solid-web frame avoids oversized decorative cutouts, while small contrasting grip inserts and a quiet wordmark create the GOOFISH identity. This is a proposed house design direction, not a claim of patent protection or uniqueness across the market.

The intended job is controlled split-ring opening, hardware positioning and line cutting. It is not a substitute for a dedicated deep-hook remover, hook cutter, wire cutter, crimping tool or fish-gripping tool. Omit cosmetic crimping grooves that imply untested crimp compatibility. Do not use the pliers to lift fish, torque a hook free from hard structure or test line strength.

Proposed specification and selection parameters

Parameter Design target / approval requirement
Closed overall length 180 mm
Closed overall width 48 mm, measured at the widest handle location
Overall thickness 18 mm target including grip and fastener envelope
Pivot center to nose tip 42 mm
Pivot center to butt end 138 mm along the closed-length datum; resolves to 180 mm with the tip distance
Grip contact length 100 mm target per handle
Opening-tooth projection 1.2 mm provisional target; final geometry after ring trials
Opening-tooth leading edge 0.8 mm provisional thickness, with a deburred working edge, not a sharpened knife edge
Ring trial range Initial sample set: split rings 6–9 mm outside diameter with 0.8–1.2 mm wire; not a confirmed compatibility range
Frame / grips 6061-T6 aluminum candidate / charcoal TPE contact inserts
Jaw inserts 420 stainless-steel candidate with supplier-approved heat treatment and finish
Line cutter inserts Replaceable cemented tungsten-carbide candidate, subject to grade, edge and cutting trials
Tool mass and functional ratings Not assigned until samples: finished mass, working force, cutting capacity, service life and corrosion-test results

Measure the final tool closed and locked on an agreed datum. These envelope dimensions do not establish internal mechanical clearances or a safe operating force. Ring numbers vary by supplier. Outside diameter alone does not determine fit: wire diameter, coil clearance, spring behavior and the amount of opening needed also matter.

Eight-part technical design brief

01 Split-ring opening tooth

Use one short inward-facing opening tooth on one jaw only, with a controlled opposing contact surface. Start development with 1.2 mm projection and a 0.8 mm leading-edge thickness. Confirm the tooth can enter the intended rings without levering the coils beyond recovery. Validate its root radius, contact angle, taper and alignment by physical testing and supplier stress review. Do not make two opposing needle points or a long brittle beak to imitate the render.

Use a standardized ring sample set spanning the proposed 6–9 mm outside diameters and 0.8–1.2 mm wires. Include multiple ring constructions and check insertion, controlled opening, release and ring recovery. The final compatibility statement must list what passed, not assume all rings within two diameter limits behave the same.

02 Replaceable jaw inserts

Proposed material: 420 stainless steel, heat treatment to be selected with the supplier around toughness, wear and corrosion behavior. Do not publish a hardness value until the actual treatment and test method are approved. Develop shallow holding serrations behind the opening tooth without sharp loose burrs. Confirm closure alignment across the operating travel and jaw retention after repeated rigging cycles.

Specify mechanical seating and a supplier-engineered locating feature so fasteners alone do not carry an unsupported twisting load. Screw size, torque, locking method, service procedure and replacement-jaw interchangeability remain engineering release items, not dimensions inferred from an image.

03 Pivot and isolation stack

Develop a captive pivot assembly with replaceable low-friction washers or bushings where appropriate. Choose fastener grade, washer material, clearance, preload and retention with the supplier. Control lateral play without binding the jaws. Evaluate the aluminum/stainless interfaces and trapped-water paths; anodizing alone does not establish galvanic-corrosion protection. No pivot torque or zero-play claim is assigned without repeated-cycle tests.

04 Replaceable line cutters

Place the cutter inserts beside the pivot, recessed from casual finger contact. Initial insert bounding-box target is approximately 10 × 5 × 2 mm per piece, subject to engineering; the cutting edge, overlap, screw clearance and backing support must be designed as a matched assembly. Candidate material is cemented tungsten carbide with grade and binder documented by the supplier. Confirm edge quality and replacement fit on actual parts.

Development tests should cover dry and wet braid as well as measured-diameter monofilament and fluorocarbon. Record line construction, actual diameter, strand count, tension and cutting position. Publish only tested line limits. These cutters are not specified for steel leaders, hooks, cable, split-ring wire or bolt cutting. Carbide inserts can chip when misused.

05 Frame and solid-web handles

Use a 6061-T6 aluminum candidate frame with smooth continuous handle webs. Nominal overall geometry is 180 × 48 × 18 mm closed, with the pivot 42 mm behind the nose. Supplier engineering must establish minimum sections, local radii, jaw-insert interfaces and peak hand-load cases. Deburr all exposed edges and remove snag points. Do not use 'aircraft-grade' as a substitute for a material certificate or a proof-load test.

Use the 100 mm grip-contact target to guide hand trials, not as a guarantee that every hand size fits. Check opening travel, closure reach and glove clearance. Final machining tolerances must come from the functional design and process study; the overall envelope is not a CNC tolerance drawing.

06 TPE grip contact inserts

Proposed insert footprint is approximately 100 × 10 mm per handle, with a nominal 1.5 mm raised contact zone where the final geometry allows. Develop shallow transverse surface ridges rather than sharp teeth. Confirm attachment, wet-hand comfort, cleaning access and resistance to peeling in saltwater-use simulations. TPE grade, hardness and aging behavior require supplier samples; do not claim a certified slip-resistance rating.

EVA is not proposed as a structural grip insert. If EVA is used in the optional sheath lip, approve it separately under the material-sampling requirements below. Do not silently replace a bonded TPE grip with foam.

07 Spring, closure lock and attachment point

Use a covered spring arrangement that cannot easily catch braid. Select spring material and working travel after repeated-opening and corrosion evaluation. Include a closed-position lock with a rounded actuator and verify that it does not release unintentionally during normal transport. It is a tool-retention feature, not a child-resistant safety lock.

Provide a rounded attachment aperture with a provisional 4 mm clear opening near the butt. The supplier must approve its edge radius, local section and retention behavior. No tether or carabiner is included in the initial configurations. This is not a climbing attachment or fall-arrest point; never attach a rigid cord to machinery or the boat.

08 Optional textile sheath

Tool with Sheath adds a proposed 600D polyester sheath. Initial internal fit target: 185 × 55 × 22 mm; approximate external envelope: 200 × 70 × 30 mm, subject to pattern development around the approved tool. Provide a protected nose end, smooth bound mouth, short retention tab and belt loop with 45 mm clear-width target. Verify retention with the actual locked pliers in multiple orientations before approving belt carry.

A proposed 1.5 mm EVA pad at the sheath mouth is for local comfort and abrasion spacing, not puncture protection. Keep the interior accessible for cleaning and drying. The sheath is not waterproof, cut-proof or an approved blade guard. Tether, spare cutters, spare jaws, adjustment keys, rings, hooks and line are not included.

Solid Coated references are 3165 C, 5195 C, 432 C and Warm Gray 1 C; 876 C is a Metallics Coated reference. Graphics standards are visual directions, not anodizing recipes, textile dye recipes or TPE/EVA formulas. Use genuine physical color standards, not a screenshot or generated image, and keep an approved master for each actual material.

Matte and metal sampling requirements

Prefer a bead-blasted and anodized aluminum appearance subject to mechanical and corrosion requirements. Approve real machined coupons with the final pretreatment, anodizing and sealing process; evaluate color, sheen, edge coverage and handling marks on the completed frame. Deep dye colors can vary with alloy, surface preparation and light angle. Do not paint working edges, cutter seats, jaw interfaces or threaded fits simply to match the artwork.

Approve the 876 C-inspired cosmetic emblem on the actual recessed surface under multiple viewing angles. Anodized metal, metallic ink and a printed metallic standard do not reproduce the same optical effect automatically. An unfilled natural-metal mark is an acceptable sample revision only after approval, not an undisclosed production substitution. Agree color/gloss and wear acceptance criteria after physical samples; no universal Delta E threshold is asserted.

TPE, EVA and textile sampling requirements

Approve TPE firmness, texture, attachment and actual molded color together. For the optional EVA sheath pad, check the 1.5 mm target thickness, compression recovery, edge quality and charcoal color as a separate material master. Inspect the assembled sheath after drying and wet/dry trials. Do not demand a glossy coated-paper match from foam or a textured grip without a material-specific tolerance. Verify the final grip and sheath remain comfortable and legible after cleaning.

Fishing methods, fish species and environments

Ringcrest is intended for pre-rigging or controlled tackle changes during slow-pitch jigging, speed jigging, popping and stickbait fishing where the selected lure uses a compatible split ring. Anglers targeting snapper, grouper, yellowtail, amberjack, tuna or trevally may change terminal hardware, but a species name does not establish ring compatibility or tool strength. Heavy-duty offshore rings need independent trials; do not label this a heavy-GT ring tool solely because it is 180 mm long.

Candidate environments are a stable rigging bench, secure boat work area, pier or shoreline tackle station. Rinse and dry the tool after saltwater use. Do not describe it as rustproof, electrically insulated, medical-grade, food-safe or suitable for lifting a fish. It is not a deep-hook release tool. Keep exposed hooks controlled and away from hands and eyes while changing hardware.

Select your configuration

Both colors share one nominal 180 mm tool design. Tool Only includes the pliers with installed jaws, cutters, spring and lock. Tool with Sheath adds the specified textile sheath and EVA mouth pad. Both exclude spare parts, tether, hooks, rings and line. Color does not change ring or line capacity.

Before customer launch, match the opening tooth to tested ring outside diameter, wire diameter and coil design, then publish the measured compatibility list. Match cutter capacity to tested line diameter and construction, not a generic breaking-strength label. Replacement cutters and jaws must match the released Ringcrest part drawing and revision; 'replaceable' does not mean universal interchangeability or that spare parts are already available.

Supplier first-article checklist before sale

Confirm alloy and temper, jaw material and treatment, cutter grade, fastener specifications, coatings and grip materials with traceable supplier documents. Measure the actual closed envelope and contact geometry. Evaluate jaw alignment, opening-tooth deformation, split-ring recovery, cutter damage, fastener retention, pivot wear, spring cycling, lock retention, grip attachment and sheath retention using documented procedures and acceptance criteria.

Set mechanical proof-load and fatigue tests with the manufacturer, not through improvised hand-force demonstrations. Evaluate saltwater exposure, rinse/dry maintenance, trapped moisture, coating wear and dissimilar-metal interfaces using an agreed test method. Do not assign salt-spray hours, operating force, hardness, lifetime warranty or corrosion immunity without evidence. Confirm replacement-part instructions and availability before promising after-sales support.

Measure final mass and packed dimensions before entering shipping data. Get supplier-approved dimensioned drawings with datum definitions, fits, edge radii and tolerances before machining. Generated illustrations may simplify jaw count, spring path, fasteners or nose geometry; written targets and approved engineering documents govern. This is an accessory, not a fishing rod, so rod Action, Power, FUJI guides and reel-seat model numbers are not applicable.

Care and safe handling

Close and lock the tool before storing. Rinse with fresh water after salt exposure and dry the jaws, cutters and pivot fully; use only a supplier-approved lubricant and cleaning method. Do not soak in corrosive cleaners, use a pressure washer, strike the jaws or cut metal wire. Inspect for chips, loose inserts, misalignment and a sticking lock before use. Stop using damaged parts and follow the released service procedure rather than guessing fastener torque. Keep the tool away from children and protect eyes during terminal-tackle changes.

Dimension concept board

Not to scale. Nose geometry, cutter clearance, grip and pivot stack require physical testing and supplier-approved drawings. The 1.2 mm projection and 0.8 mm leading-edge thickness are written development targets, not gauge readings from the illustration.
