Goofish® Rod-More Than Fishing
GOOFISH® INKWARD Two-Piece Shore Eging Spinning Rod
Description
Product details
The GOOFISH INKWARD is a two-piece shore eging spinning rod for working squid jigs along accessible piers, protected bays and open rocky shorelines with safe footing and a landing net. Choose the shorter 832ML for lighter egi and precise handling, or the 862M for larger egi and a little more reach. Coral Current pairs a vivid coral-red lower blank with cyan trim, graphite EVA and a carbon-look upper section.
Specification status: The dimensions, ratings, mass and balance below are design targets awaiting physical sample validation. FUJI references identify sourced component candidates, not approved installed components. No finished-rod strength, casting-distance or sensitivity performance has been measured. Images are design renders, not product photographs or production drawings.

Egi size is a lure-size designation, not a gram value. Weigh the selected lure and any added hardware; both the size envelope and complete-payload target must be respected. Deep or fast-sinking egi of the same size can weigh differently. Do not add a heavy sinker simply because the egi size matches. These casting targets are not tip-run or vertical boat-jigging ratings.
Power describes the intended relative resistance of the blank; ML and M are separate blank specifications, not interchangeable tips. Action describes the intended distribution of bend. Moderate-Fast is a handling target for controlled darting and progressive loading, not a guarantee against lost squid. Actual action and power require measured bend curves and on-water validation.

A dedicated saltwater squid role
INKWARD focuses on cast-and-retrieve eging for locally occurring reef or coastal squid, with cuttlefish an incidental possibility rather than a separate performance promise. The 832ML prioritizes shorter handling and lighter egi in sheltered water. The 862M adds length and a larger payload envelope for open shore positions where casting clearance is available.
Neither model is a heavy surf rod, shore metal-jigging rod, offshore jigging rod, trolling rod, heavy-cover bass rod or boat tip-run rod. Strong current, high winds, deep water requiring extra sinkers, restricted overhead clearance and exposed dangerous rocks fall outside the intended operating envelope. Use a landing net; never hoist a squid or snag with the rod. Avoid high-sticking, inspect the joint and guides, and rinse salt residue gently before drying completely.
Handle layout and fit
All longitudinal coordinates below use the butt end face as x=0, increasing toward the tip, in millimetres. The shared handle target is: graphite cap x0–15; rear EVA x15–130 (115 mm); exposed split gap x130–200 (70 mm); seat body envelope x200–320 (120 mm); short EVA foregrip x320–345 (25 mm); trim x345–347 (2 mm). Seat midpoint x260 is a body datum, not an assumed reel-foot midpoint. Sculpted EVA overlaps the rear part of the VSS body within its envelope, not as an extra axial segment.
Rear-grip maximum OD target is 26 mm for ML and 27 mm for M; foregrip maximum OD target 24/25 mm; cap OD target 27/28 mm. Palm contour, lock-nut travel, hood clearances and adhesive thickness require drawings and trial assembly. No casting trigger is specified. Reel size numbers are not standardized foot dimensions: test the actual intended reels for seating, thread engagement and freedom from rocking.
Measure balance horizontally with assembled dry rod, tip-top and wraps fitted, specified test reel installed, no line or lure, and record the real reel-foot midpoint and resulting balance coordinate. Record bare-rod balance separately; no unmeasured bare-rod balance is claimed.

Materials and researched FUJI candidates
A tubular carbon-fibre blank is the material direction. Carbon manufacturer, fibre grade, resin, fibre angles, reinforcement, wall schedule and cure cycle remain unassigned until engineering and supplier review. The visible carbon texture is an appearance direction, not evidence of a named fibre or modulus. Do not specify Toray, a tonnage grade or a proprietary technology without a confirmed supply record.
| Candidate | Quantity per rod | Catalog identity / development condition |
|---|---|---|
| FUJI BCKLAG25H | 1 | Nominal ring size 25, high single-foot reduction frame; Alconite, frosted dark-grey stainless. Catalog H 55.9, L1 22.0, L 43.4 mm. |
| FUJI BCKLAG12H | 1 | Nominal ring 12, high single-foot reduction frame. Catalog H 31.8, L1 17.0, L 29.0 mm. |
| FUJI BCKLAG6SL | 1 | Size-6 reduction candidate explicitly listed in Anglers Resource guide-set catalog. Exact SL geometry and current supplier order convention require confirmation; do not substitute an L or M suffix silently. |
| FUJI BCKBAG55 | 1 | Nominal 5.5 belly guide, wider-foot K-frame; Alconite, frosted dark-grey stainless. Catalog uses 55 for 5.5. |
| FUJI BCKTAG55 | 5 | Nominal 5.5 lightweight single-foot runners; Alconite, frosted dark-grey stainless. Nine guides total excluding tip-top. |
| FUJI BCMNAT family, nominal ring 6 | 1 | Alconite tip-top with stainless frame. Final tube bore, finish and complete ordering suffix remain unassigned; obtain measured tip OD and available tube sizes before ordering. |
| FUJI VSSSD-16GM | 1 | Graphite spinning seat candidate. Supplier catalog: body length 120 mm, bore 13 mm, OD1 18.3, OD2 14.8 mm, mass 20 g. These are component catalog figures, not installed dimensions or finished-rod mass. |
Both models start with the same nine-guide train and seat candidate to simplify sampling, not because identical spacing or fit has been proven. The Anglers Resource catalog lists the 25H / 12H / 6SL / KB55 / five KT55 combination. Its existence does not approve it for either INKWARD blank. Static loading, reel-spool geometry, leader-knot passage and casting trials must approve or revise the count and stations. Nominal ring sizes do not state usable inner diameter. Keep knots small and test the actual leader connection through every guide.
Confirm the 13 mm seat bore clears the actual coated blank plus engineered bond line at x200–320; select compatible arbors without thinning structural walls to force fit. Tip-top selection uses finished tip OD, tube engagement, adhesive clearance and ring-plane alignment. Catalogs and retailers describe some BCMNAT finishes differently; supplier-approved physical finish governs. No complete tube-specific order code is invented.

Coral Current finish and brand details
The lower blank colour field is vivid coral red, PANTONE 1788 C reference, x347–850. A cyan accent, PANTONE 298 C reference, defines a narrow longitudinal dash at x810–840 and fine trim. The upper blank retains a dark carbon appearance. Graphite-grey EVA and cap use PANTONE 432 C as an appearance reference; light lettering uses PANTONE 7527 C. Guide thread is coral with a single 1 mm cyan visual edge target, not an increased structural wrap requirement. Native FUJI hardware finishes remain unpainted.
Use separate signed physical masters for matte blank paint over carbon, cured coated thread, moulded EVA, cap substrate and printed ink. A metal appearance trial is separate from paint or EVA; no custom anodizing of FUJI components is specified. PANTONE is a visual reference only, not a coating, polymer or anodizing recipe. Approve daylight and artificial-light comparison, adhesion, rub resistance, salt exposure and coating mass before release.
Use the merchant-approved connected-double-O GOOFISH artwork without retyping, redrawing or stretching. The supplied raster reference establishes the intended style; an approved vector master is still required for production. Blank wordmark maximum box x365–425, 60 mm long by 9 mm high, scaled proportionally with at least 3 mm clear space. INKWARD box x440–505, 65 by 7 mm; model/spec line x520–655, 135 by 4 mm. Read from butt toward tip on the outward presentation face. A second artwork face must not be added by copying render accidents.
Physical inscription target: “INKWARD 832ML | 2.51m | 2PC | ML | MOD-FAST | EGI 2.0–3.0 | 6–16g | PE0.4–0.8” or the corresponding “862M | 2.59m | M | EGI 2.5–3.5 | 10–23g | PE0.6–1.0”. Final ratings may be printed only after sample approval. During sampling add an English “SAMPLE — RATINGS UNVERIFIED” label. Pad-print or transfer under a compatible clear layer after ink testing; do not add certification symbols.
Cap face uses a proportionally scaled 16 by 3 mm maximum GOOFISH box inside a 20 mm artwork zone with 2 mm clear space. The cap is graphite polymer/EVA appearance, not a heavy metal plug. Family accent: two short cyan dashes 6 by 1 mm separated by 2 mm near x690, no new fish emblem. Section IDs S1/S2 in 3 mm-high lettering sit approximately 25 mm from the corresponding joint shoulder/socket edge, with matching 8 by 1 mm alignment ticks. Leave structural mating surfaces unpainted; final print position must clear the complete engagement and reinforcement zone. Trim at grip ends targets 1 mm cyan visual width; supplier must determine substrate, retention and edge radii.
Engineering validation and safe-load definitions
No minimum force, working drag or breaking-strength number is assigned to either model without engineered evidence. ML and M require separate approved test limits. Lure mass, PE size, Power and squid mass cannot be converted into a minimum rod force.
| Quantity | Meaning and release requirement |
|---|---|
| Working rod load, N | Approved service-load envelope under a defined line path and rod/line angle. Both model values remain engineer-owned and unassigned. |
| Recommended reel drag, N, with optional kgf display | Line payout tension measured by a calibrated gauge under the approved fishing geometry; not a rod lifting limit. Both model values remain unassigned. |
| Line tensile strength, N | Measured separately for actual wet/dry line and knots using a line tensile fixture. PE is a size designation, not a guaranteed breaking load. |
| Proof load, N | Non-destructive acceptance load chosen by the engineer from service requirements and safety assessment; no numerical guarantee until approved and tested. |
| Destructive load, N | Failure characterization on dedicated sacrificial rods in a guarded fixture. Never a consumer operating rating. |
Required fixture brief: assembled rod with correct joint seating; compliant padded supports on the rear-grip and seat regions, not a hard clamp on exposed blank; line routed through all guides to a calibrated load cell and remote actuator. Engineer must approve support coordinates/contact areas, restraint, original butt-axis datum, angle definition, actuator/line direction and load application point. Record rod angle and line angle separately throughout bending. Never hang free weights from the tip or reproduce a static lifting demonstration.
For each model the engineer must sign a test sheet specifying preload (N), ramp (N/s or displacement mm/min), target/stop load (N), hold (s), unload rate, rest time (s), cycle count, environmental conditioning, instrument calibration and sample quantity. These parameters are deliberately unassigned rather than fabricated. Force is applied through the tip-top by the routed line; determine whether a separate guide/seat test needs a different fixture. Stop immediately for joint movement, cracking, guide or seat displacement, line damage or instability.
Acceptance requires no cracking, delamination, guide or seat loosening, ring damage, bond failure or unsafe joint movement. Residual set, permitted joint slip, dimensional drift, fatigue life and statistical sample acceptance need numerical engineering approval before testing. Passing a provisional sample test does not automatically establish a retail drag claim. Destructive tests use separate rods, remote loading and a shielded exclusion zone.
Sample approval checklist
- Design inputs: assembled and section lengths, two model roles, payload windows, handle datum chain, colour layout and artwork boxes. These are development inputs, not manufacturing tolerances.
- Engineer/supplier drawings: fibre/resin selection, layup, local reinforcement, wall transitions, taper, cut lengths, ferrule bore/taper/engagement and gap, concentricity, glue clearance, seat/arbor stack, grip bores, trim edges and tip-top tube. Assign individual tolerances; do not use one blanket tolerance.
- Action and Power: measure calibrated deflection curves and recovery, compare ML and M under the same controlled method, check torsion and joint transition, then approve controlled egi casting and darting trials within the targets.
- Guide layout: temporary fit with actual reels and line; static deflection checks throughout loading; clearance from blank; knot travel; stable line control during casts. Record approved count and stations from a common datum.
- Reel seat: actual 2500/C3000 feet, lock travel, no rocking, comfort under repetitive movement, cured bond integrity and service access.
- Joint: repeat assembly/separation checks, clean dry fit, wear, alignment, pull/rotation and cyclic bending using approved loads; never force mating faces flush.
- Finish and storage: substrate-specific signed colour samples, UV/salt/adhesion/rub tests with engineer-set conditions, coating mass, cap printing, protected tip clearance, guide envelope and real case clearance.
- Approval: weigh and balance assembled samples, record deviations, revise drawings/BOM, sign physical samples and final test reports before releasing production or validated buyer specifications.
