The GOOFISH Abyss Jigger Gen 2 saltwater jigging reel combines a 6.08:1 gear ratio, CNC-machined aluminum construction and a T-bar handle for vertical and slow-pitch jigging setups. Choose left- or right-hand retrieve and one of three available color combinations.
Before your next session, select the retrieve hand you use, spool the reel with a suitable line and match it to a compatible jigging rod. The open frame, machined cutouts and metal handle give the Gen 2 its distinctive appearance.

Choose the retrieve hand and color
Select Right (GR500) if you wind with your right hand, or Left (GL500) if you wind with your left hand. The selectable colors are Silver/Blue, Silver/Green and Pink/Gold. All six listed combinations use the 6.08:1 gear ratio and 30.06-inch retrieve specification. Check the complete option selection before ordering; do not assume the handle can be switched between sides.
Build a matching jigging setup
Match rod, reel, main line, leader, knots and drag as a complete setup. Select jig weight for your rod and fishing conditions rather than treating reel capacity as a guaranteed fishing depth. Set drag conservatively for the weakest part of the system, and use suitable landing equipment instead of lifting fish with the reel or rod.

Everyday questions and troubleshooting
Why is line building up on one side of the spool?
Check the line lay while winding. Keep steady tension and guide the line evenly across the spool as needed, following the supplied instructions. Avoid overfilling. If loose loops or a tangled section develop, stop and clear them carefully before continuing. Keep fingers away from moving parts and never wrap loaded line around your hand.
Why does line come out more easily than expected?
Check the drag setting, line knots and attachment to the spool before blaming a reel fault. Test gently in a safe area with the lure or hook secured away from people. Start with a conservative setting suitable for your line, leader, knots and rod; do not tighten to the listed maximum simply to stop line release. If settings do not respond normally, stop use and seek service.
What should I do if the handle feels stiff or rough?
Remove line tension safely and check for tangled line, visible debris or contact between the line and frame. Do not force the handle or use it to free a snag. If roughness persists without load, or the reel begins grinding, stop using it and arrange inspection. Do not open the reel or spray lubricant into internal parts as a quick fix.
What if the reel makes a new noise or the handle feels loose?
Stop fishing and inspect the handle and visible fittings. Look for damaged line, trapped debris or visibly loose components. Follow the model's instructions for any external adjustment; do not overtighten fittings or guess an internal repair. Continued noise, play or inconsistent drag calls for service rather than further use.
Care after saltwater use
A short cleaning routine after each saltwater session helps keep exterior salt residue from accumulating. The reel's supplied maintenance instructions take priority over general care advice.
- Remove surface salt: wipe exterior metal surfaces and the handle with a soft cloth lightly dampened with fresh water.
- Clean gently: use a soft brush for accessible exterior crevices. Avoid high-pressure water, immersion, abrasive cleaners and solvents.
- Dry fully: let the reel air-dry in a shaded, ventilated place before putting it away. Do not seal a damp reel in a bag or case.
- Inspect before the next trip: check line abrasion, knots, the handle and visible fittings; test winding and drag gently before fishing.
- Store dry: keep the reel in a dry, ventilated location. An anodized finish does not eliminate the need for saltwater care.
Where should I add oil or grease?
Use only the lubricant, locations and intervals specified in the supplied manual. Do not spray oil indiscriminately into the spool, bearings or drag system. If model-specific lubrication instructions are unavailable, ask for service guidance before opening the reel. After immersion or persistent grinding, avoid further use until the reel has been inspected.
